Lewes Twinning Association was approached by Patina to see if we could ask our twin towns of Blois and Waldshut-Tiengen if they would like to be involved in the postcard campaign. On contacting the towns, they were both very happy to help and a staggering 400 postcards were sent from the children of those towns to the children of Lewes and surrounding villages who are moving on this year.
The Patina Moving On Parade is taking place on 7 July and the theme this year is "Wonders of Our World", focusing on some of the world's most spectacular places, architecture and festivals, and celebrating connections our area has with people around the globe. One of Patina's initiatives for this international theme has been to ask people near and far to write postcards with messages of good luck and encouragement to the children as they make the next big step in their lives and move to secondary school.
Caroline Croft of Patina said, "We have been thrilled by people's response to this initiative and we are very grateful to Lewes Twinning Association for their help. We can't thank our twin towns enough for the hundreds of cards sent by their children to ours. I have to say we were totally moved by the messages and the incredible effort they have made. The children have shown extraordinary kindness to our youngsters and we hope this leads to lasting friendships between the younger generations of our twin towns."
Any last cards can be put in the Patina post box in the Tourist Office. The cards will be displayed at the Moving On Exhibition at the Linklater Pavilion on Sunday 9 July, before being distributed to the children.
Lewes Town Twinning Association will also be helping to get the Patina logo shown and photographed in different important buildings around the twin towns.
(Pictures of the children with the cards will be available soon)
